Bridge Broadcaster and LAN

To run Bridge Mobile Local:

– A broadcast license is required

– Confirm all devices are connected to the same network.

– Reporter should be on a Home network, not a public network.

– Run CMLocal before starting RT.  (Eclipse may be open.)

– CMLocal will give you the IP address.  If you are running the app you do not need this addy.  (It is not the router address.)

 

If you will be outputting to Bridge Mobile using connection magic, it’s very simple.
Whether you are using the internet, or a local connection you will need to go to your user settings and to the realtime tab.
In the output formats box, add a format for Bridge/Mobile and choose Connection Magic as the output device. Apply edits and allow backspaces should already be checked.

Once you have the output set up, in order to stream your feed to Bridge Mobile on the internet, all you need to do is ensure that you are connected to the internet before you begin realtime.
When your job starts in Eclipse, you will be prompted to start the Bridge Mobile session. You can use the default session name, or type in your own name. Then type in a password, you will provide this password to your clients who are using Bridge Mobile. The password can be as simple or complex as you’d like and is case sensitive.
There is an option to make the session publicly visible and we recommend leaving that checked. This allows your clients to find the session name in a list of sessions. If publicly visible is not checked, your client will need to type in the session name.
After choosing or typing the session name, the client will then enter the password and hit the green check mark to connect.
If you are not going to be using the internet, you need to make sure that you install Connection Magic Local from the Bridge Mobile section of the downloads.
To stream to Bridge Mobile without internet, but over a router, you will connect to the router then open Connection Magic Local. Once it says server started, open Eclipse.
Wait for Eclipse to say “LAN” in the info bar or the status bar at the time.
Once you see that it has connected to the LAN server, you can start your job and the rest of the steps are the same on your end.

Ensure that whatever device your client is using is connected to the same router network.
If your client is using the app on an Apple or Android device or Windows/Mac versions, all they have to do is connect to your network and open the app and hit connect. The file should be listed for them there unless you chose not to have it publicly visible. They would insert the password and hit the green check to connect.

If they are using a web browser on any device, they will need to input the IP address from Connection Magic into their browser address bar to connect.

Once Bridge Mobile is open on any device, there is a Help icon that the client can press to see what all of the options do.

To use Connection Magic over a router please follow these steps:

Plug in your router and connect your realtime computer’s wifi to it.
Ensure that the devices your clients will be utilizing are also connected to the router’s network.
Start Connection Magic Local.
Once the server has started and given you an IP address (this should usually start with 192.168), you should then check your realtime out put format.
Go to Alt+U/Realtime Tab.
You should have an output that says Bridge/Lawbridge (server).
If you do not see this output, click Add.
Set the format to Bridge/Lawbridge/Teleview and set the Comm device to Connection Magic. Ensure that apply edits is checked, click Ok all the way out.
Once the output format has been added/verified, you can start Realtime.
Once realtime has begun, your clients can go open their web browser and input the IP address that Connection Magic Local provided.
If they are using the App, it should automatically fill in the IP address.
Once the Bridge Mobile page loads, click on the yellow lightning bolt icon.
Choose your file, enter the password and click/tap the green check mark.

At this point, the file should load and your clients can follow along with your realtime feed.

I wonder if it may be helpful to provide this information for each person on the CM team instead of just saying “it’s a server problem” or that people got a lot of Connect/disconnect messages or lot of red. Tell Jeremy about some of the other communications information he may need, such as:

·         What kind of network connected to. Possibilities:

o    4G or 3G (via hotspot)

o    LAN (the reporter most likely)

o    Home network, and specify whether it is:

§   DSL (phone company)

§   FiOS

§   Cable

·         Type of connection

o    Hotspot

o    WiFi

o    Ethernet (“hardwired”)

·         Also: Note for computers running Windows 10: Is the connection set to metered? If not there may be automatic Windows updates downloading in the background that can seriously impact bandwidth.
